Computer Memory Test
Computer Memory Test
Have you ever experience your computer act very wrong, like unexpectedly blank or hang? Do you see the “memory error” messages on your screen? Replacing computer memory actually is not a big deal, since it’s easy and inexpensive. But to make sure what’s happening is because the damage of your computer memory, you have to perform computer memory test.
Historically, computer memory test results that computer memory has lower failure rate compared to other computer parts. That’s because computer memory doesn’t like the video card or processor which is subject of the heat stresses, and neither like hard drive which has a moving parts. But still, computer memory can get damage because of some cause.
One of the perpetrators is static electricity. It could be happened when you replace some computer parts without discharging electric static from your hand. Even though the electric shock is too weak to feel, but it’s adequate to make the delicate micro circuitry malfunctioning. This cause won’t happen if you never open the computer case.
Another perpetrator is power surge. Even you don’t see any smoke or sparks; the power surge can cause subtle damage to computer memory that will be seen in few days. The surge protector can minimize this. But still, sometimes it might have “dirty” power which is mostly comes from unsteady voltage of electricity. Computer memory can also be caused by the dust that enter the computer case and short out memory contacts.
Performing computer memory test sometimes can frustrates us because many possibilities which can cause it, such as imperfect operating system installation, virus, software and many others. Sometimes, your computer screen locks up with a blue screen containing cryptic messages. This symptoms is called BSoD (Blue Screen of Death), mostly is a sign of hardware problems. You don’t have too worry if it only happen once, but if it keep happen, it might be indicate a serious hardware problems. If this only happen when playing certain computer games that need a intensive graphic card, that could be a sign of a memory problem. Reboots or also BSoDs during other memory intensive operations such as viewing large images, video editing or compiling software also could be indicated of computer memory problems
Some utilities like Microsoft’s Windows Memory Diagnostic can be used to perform computer memory test. Performing computer memory test utility can confirm the error comes from computer memory rather than other computer part. Test each memory module by leaving only one module in the system to isolate which one has a problem.
After the computer memory test found which module has a problem, we recommend you to replace it. Computer memory is not expensive, so don’t risk your important data by keeping a damaged module. Re-seating the error memory module could fix the problem, but sometime it only for temporary.
